Granada!

So a few weeks ago I went to Granada, which is a city located in the southern region of Spain called Andalucia. Granada has a lot of islamic influence because it was occupied by muslim people for centuries. The architecture is absolutely gorgeous, and overall the city is much closer to what I had envisioned a typical Spanish city to be like. The trip was organized by IES, and it was full of amazing things to do. We flew in super early, and had a guided tour through the oldest neighborhoods of the city followed by lunch and free time. Some of us climbed up to the Sacromonte Abbey, which was really cool. The next day, we went to La Alhambra which is an old islamic palace and fortress. I've never seen a cooler building in my life. The architecture is so intricate and ornate and gorgeous and I could go on and on...

Later that day the IES Barcelona kids had a friendly futbol match against the IES Granada kids...and lost. *sad face* but it was still lots of fun. After dinner a few friends and I went to a cool  Moroccan themed restaurant for tea and pastries. The place was really tiny but also so cozy with pillows and curtains.

Sunday was my favorite day because we went to the ARAB BATHS aka SPA TIME! The guide took us inside this way cool building where we got in our swimsuits and had the chance to go in pools of different temperatures as well as a sauna room. They treated us to a massage (so heavenly) and wonderful tea throughout. That day my friend Becca and I ate at a nice Moroccan restaurant. The trip concluded with a tour of downtown Granada and the cathedral where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel are buried.

Granada is full of little markets and shops. I loved going into them and exploring the cool Arab things they have. I had the pleasure of buying myself some loose leaf tea, as well as cool printed pants.

Hace unas semanas fui a Granada, una ciudad situada en el sur de España en la región de Andalucía. Granada tiene mucha influencia islámica ya que fue ocupada por los musulmanes por varios siglos. La arquitectura es absolutamente bella, y en general la ciudad se asemeja mas a la idea que me había formado de una ciudad típica española. El viaje fue organizado por IES, y estuvo lleno de cosas divertidas por hacer. Volamos súper temprano, y nos llevaron por algunos de los barrios mas antiguos de la ciudad. Después comimos tuvimos un poco de tiempo libre para explorar. Algunos de nosotros subimos a la abadía del Sacromonte, cosa que fue muy padre. El día siguiente visitamos la Alhambra, que es un viejo palacio y fortaleza islámica. Nunca en mi vida había visto un edificio tan hermoso. La arquitectura es tan intrincada y florida y detallada…

Mas tarde los chicos de IES Barcelona jugamos un partido de futbol con los de IES Granada… y perdimos *carita triste* pero de todos modos nos divertimos bastante. Después de cenar algunos amigos y yo fuimos a un restaurante marrueco para tomar té y algunos pastelitos típicos. El lugar fue bastante pequeño pero también cómodo ya que estaba decorado de almohadas y cojines y cortinas.

El domingo fue mi día favorita porque fuimos a LOS BANOS ARABES --- tiempo de SPA! El guía nos llevo a un edificio padre, donde nos pusimos nuestros trajes de baño y tuvimos la oportunidad de meternos a varias piscinas de distintas temperaturas, y una sauna. Nos hicieron masaje (que maravilla) y había té disponible para tomar durante toda la visita. Para comer mi amiga Becca y yo fuimos a otro restaurante marrueco. El viaje concluyo con una visita del centro de Granada y la catedral donde se encuentran las tumbas de los reyes católicos, Fernando e Isabel.

Granada está llena de pequeños mercados y tiendas. A mi me encantó entrar y ver la mercancía árabe. Me compré un poco de té de hojas sueltas y unos pantalones estampados muy bonitos.
